Summary

The primary aim of this level is for children to comfortably paddle 2 to 3 metres, roll on to their back and back-float with the assistance of a grownup. Paddling and rolling improves the core strength and motor skills required to generate propulsion in the water, which will eventually make children safer in this environment. We also teach children to independently turn around and grab onto the edge of the pool, back-float for 5 seconds unassisted and paddle for 3 to 4 metres in a horizontal body position. The main challenge of the Squids level is to maintain a horizontal body position while swimming independently.
