Swimming Lessons in Canberra – Everything You Need to Know

When is the ideal time for my child to start swimming?

As soon as possible! Our Aquatic Achievers programs are designed for children from 3 months old to 12 years old, and we are passionate about starting a child’s swimming journey at a young age. By getting your child in the pool early, it builds their confidence, safety awareness, and overall comfort in the water in this crucial development stage.

With over 30 years’ experience, we understand the stress that parents face and the unfortunate dangers of the water. Therefore, we are on a mission to create a safer future for families in Canberra and across Australia.

Do you cater to different ages?

Yes! At Aquatic Achievers, we pride ourselves on the fact we teach babies, toddlers, and primary school children to swim. We want to help as many children as possible and implement this through the following age-based programs:

Age Range Development Focus
0-3 years Foundational safety, confidence, and coordination development
3-5 years Solo swimming, core safety, and social skills development
5+ years Building endurance, stroke development, and further safety skills development

How much experience do your instructors have?

Our team of instructors at Aquatic Achievers are certified by one of Australia’s leading industry partners, Austswim. Ensuring all our instructors are properly qualified is our priority and our promise to parents. Every member of our Canberra team has completed a comprehensive ‘Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety’ training course and clearly demonstrated the necessary ability to teach swimming and water safety to a high standard.

In addition, instructors regularly complete refresher workshops, courses, and recertification to grow their own skills and help to achieve the best results for students.

What is safeguarding and how does it work?

Safeguarding is a core principle across all Aquatic Achievers swim schools. We are strong believers in safety, security and welfare of young people and we make sure to take all the appropriate steps to guarantee are youngest and most vulnerable are protected.

Some of the measures that we have in place include:

• Protecting children from abuse, harm, and neglect
• Sustaining the health and well-being of children, both physically and emotionally
• Allowing children to express their thoughts and opinions
• Fostering development of children to reach their full potential
• Encouraging diversity, inclusivity, and participation
• Creating a child-friendly and welcoming environment for every child
• Consistent monitoring of policies, practices, and feedback to protect children and young people

How often should children be taking swimming lessons?

As with any stage of development for a child, consistency and frequency is vital. Particularly at a very young age and learning a new skill, it is crucial that your child develops the necessary confidence and comfort in the water, which requires regular trips to the pool.

We recommend starting with one regular swimming lesson per week (across the younger ages) to start you child’s journey of growth and development in the water.
