Become a qualified Swim Teacher

Teaching swimming requires a special set of skills, including a passion for working with children, excellent communication, and a willingness to learn. If you have the right attitude and enthusiasm, Aquatic Achievers will help you gain a nationally recognised swim teacher qualification.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Passion for Working with Children: If you enjoy helping kids learn, grow, and achieve new skills, this role could be ideal for you.
  • Confidence in the Water: You don’t need to be an Olympic swimmer, but you must be comfortable and confident in the water.
  • Strong Communication Skills: You’ll need to explain techniques clearly and work closely with students, parents, and fellow team members.
  • Patience and Encouragement: Not every student learns at the same pace, so having patience and a supportive attitude is key.
  • Commitment to Learning: Teaching swimming requires specific skills, and we’re here to help you learn through hands-on training and certification support.

Note: We welcome applications from candidates aged 15 and older, as some qualifications can be earned at 15.

Why get qualified?

  • Global Opportunities: Your swim teacher qualification is nationally recognised, giving you the flexibility to teach swimming across Australia and even abroad.
  • Hands-On Experience: For students studying sports science, education, or child development, this role offers practical, hands-on experience that strengthens your skills and enhances your CV.
  • A Perfect Fit for Your Stage of Life: Whether you’re a retiree looking for a meaningful way to stay engaged, someone seeking a fulfilling role, or a student in need of flexible hours, teaching swimming at Aquatic Achievers is a rewarding way to make a real impact in your community.

Wondering what a typical day looks like as a swim teacher? Here’s a sneak peek:

  • Pre-Shift: Arrive at the pool, review the set lesson plan, and get ready to help babies and children learn essential swimming skills.
  • Morning Shifts: Work with babies and preschoolers in a fun, nurturing environment, guiding them through water safety and foundational skills.
  • Afternoon Shifts: Teach children of all ages, helping them improve their swimming skills and celebrating every milestone.
  • Post-Shift: Wrap up your classes and enjoy the rewarding feeling of helping kids progress and grow!

What We Look For in Our Team

At Aquatic Achievers, we’re looking for individuals who share our passion for making a difference in children’s lives. Here’s what we value most in our team members:

  • Confidence in the Water: You’ll need to feel comfortable in the pool environment.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Clear communication is essential for teaching and working with colleagues.
  • Patience and Positivity: Providing steady encouragement and understanding is key to helping swimmers of all abilities.
  • Commitment to Consistency: While we hire on a casual basis, consistency is important to us. Our students thrive on building relationships with their swim teachers, so we value team members who can regularly commit to shifts. Swim teacher shifts typically last 3-4 hours on weekday mornings and afternoons. Weekend shifts are longer, and we offer an enhanced pay rate to reflect the extra commitment.
  • Understanding of Child Safety: You must demonstrate appropriate behaviour when engaging with children, and a Working with Children check is required before training starts.
